The department received an emergency call shortly after 4 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 30, when strong gusts of wind moved a pair of units perched atop a building in the heart of Yonkers, Deputy Fire Chief Daniel Flynn said. The towers were moved to the edge of the top floor of a construction site near at the intersection of Warburton Avenue and Main Street.
The units were on top of the site of a future 26-story residential apartment complex that is under construction. Flynn said the units “were perched dangerously over the edge and posed a great danger of crashing to the street below.”
Firefighters were able to secure the units safely with a combination of hoist straps and cables until construction crews were able to respond to the scene and secure the units in place. All firefighters cleared the scene and were back in service no later than 6 p.m.
